October Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Unless you have been living under a rock you should already know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It just amazes me how much effort is put into raising awareness for Breast Cancer it seems like everyone gets involved. If you had a chance to catch any NFL games this past weekend you might have noticed many players wearing pink shoes, pink gloves, arms bands etc to show their support for breast cancer. They even have the pink ribbons on their helmets to honor Breast Cancer awareness month.
Breast Cancer really hits home for me, a good friend of my family was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in her 30's she is now a proud survivor and it has inspired me to take a more active role in Breast Cancer awareness. For many years my family has ran in The Race For The Cure and last year I participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 day walk here in Metro Detroit. 60 miles over a three day period. Sure some people think walking is no big deal but let me tell you I would have much rather ran at times, especailly since the route we walked was extremely hilly! Sure the first few miles are no problem but after about mile 9 you can really feel it and by the end of the day my knees would just buckle in! Not only is this a physically challenging walk each and every participant was required to raise $2200 in order to walk. But the experience you encounter is like nothing else! You walk with thousands of people some people just want to join in on the fight, some are walking to honor a friend or loved one, some are survivors themselves. At the end of the 3 days a ceremony is held and a "variety" of survivors and loved ones who walked to honor them take the stage. It was amazing to see the survivors up there some were older women, some middle aged and one woman was was about 28 years old, there was even a man up there as well. Many people don't realize that Breast Cancer can effect men too. If you ever have a chance to participate in the 3 day walk I would strongly recommend it! Check out some of the pictures of my friend Stephanie and me from the walk.

How Tyra Bank Dropped 30 lbs!!

I'll be honest I'm not the biggest Tyra fan but I do give her a lot of credit for everything she has accomplished. Now after taking a lot of hits from the media about her weight Tyra has lost an astonishing 30 lbs!! Tyra said that her and her friends decided to make a pact to lose weight. This wasn't to look better or get back at the media it was just to feel better. Good for you Tyra!
To slim down Tyra went on power walks in Manhattan, lowered the amount of carbs she eats and increased her veggie intake. Now she is reportedly at a size 2!
It's been 3 years since THE bathing suit pictures (below) appeared and all the criticism started rolling in. Well I'm sure she has shut up her critics now!

Lauren Conrad's Style Tips

Sure Lauren is off the Hills now but that doesn't mean she doesn't still have killer style! Since finally having some privacy and not running around in the faux reality series she is now dedicating her time to her true passion...Fashion!
Lauren recently shared with People Magazine some of her top style tips...
#1 Wear Neutral Colors
"I really like color, but I tend to gravitate toward neutrals. For my new line (now at Khols) we wanted to do really good basics that have a more relaxed fit."
#2 Wear Something Belted On A "Fat" Day
"I'll wear something oversize but belted, because you have room in there but you have a waist. If I put on a big balloon outfit I'll just go and eat more that won't make me feel any better."
#3 Make Jeans and Heels Your Go-To Date Outfit
"I don't go on fancy dates. My dates are the casual sushi and a movie, so it's normally jeans. It's nice to have that feminine look but not like you're trying too hard."
#4 Lauren's Signature Fashion Trick Is To Shorten Her Minis
"I have short legs, so I have the tailor take them up another inch."

Kim & Khloe's Slim Down Secrets

Most of us have already heard all the buzz about Kim Kardashian's slim down but now her sister Khloe has slimmed down too. Maybe that wedding of hers was in the works longer than we thought and that just could have been her inspiration. Well either way they both look great and have said that together they have lost a total of 35 lbs!! Here are some of their slim down secrets they shared with Life & Style Magazine..
Kim: "I don't deprive myself of what I want. Sometimes I feel like a milk shake, I have one."
Kim uses QuickTrim weight loss supplement to curb her appetite.
Khloe: Loves to break a sweat and relies on her favorite work out... "Boxing is my favorite. I could do it for hours and just drip sweat. I love knowing I've lost a million calories- and also it's a stress reliever. When I don't swear I get irritated, i need to sweat to know I did something."
That's my philosophy you didn't work hard unless you broke a sweat. The funny thing is boxing suits her perfectly...on both of her reality shows she is always trying to beat up on her sister Kourtney and it does seem like she has a lot of built up anger. Good for her for channeling it the right way!
Kim says you need to stay focused on the goal, "You have to dedicate yourself. You have to motivate yourself. Get a buddy- do anything you have to do." Kim added that it took her four months to get on schedule with a regular routine!
Check out these before and after shots...

One Product 3 Ways...Cuticle Oil

There isn't anything I love more in a beauty product than it having multiple uses!
Did you know cuticle oil can also be used for the following...
Halt Smudges
"Drop cuticle oil on each nail just after polishing. The oil makes nail surfaces slippery, serving as a buffer between the lacquer and any object that might tarnish it.
This works for pedicures too:
Immediately after applying top coat; add cuticle oil; then slip on sandals for a flaw-free trip home."
- Jaimi Brooks
Fix Smears
I can't even count how many times I have smeared my freshly painted polish! Actually I think I do it every time I get a manicure! Seriously what is wrong with me you would think I would have learned by now...
So if you are like me or maybe it just happens to you once in awhile Jaimi Brooks recommends brushing cuticle oil onto the nail and gently rub out creases with fingers.
Refresh Dull Polish
" A spot of cuticle oil adds a nice sheen to lackluster lacquer. It hydrates nails, while sinking into every nook and cranny to smooth out imperfections."
- Jaimi Brooks
Best Beauty Tips of All Time Pt. 7
The Tips just keep on coming...
Shield Under-eye Areas
I am really starting to notice how the skin under my eyes is changing and I'm not liking it too much :( Oh getting older is so much fun! Yes I'm being sarcastic...
"Don't forget to cover the area beneath your eyes when spreading on sunscreen. The skin around your eyes is thinner, making it more susceptible to damaging UV rays."
- Jeanine Downie, Montclair, N.J., Dermatologist

Add Oomph to Lips
"Always keep a sheer golden lip gloss in your makeup bag. It instantly warms up any lip color and gives you a brand new shade."
- Anthea King

Control Shine
"Tea is a natural astringent. To reduce oil, splash your face with cool black tea, but do not rinse."
- Peter Kopelson

Avoid breakouts from Brushes
"Wash your makeup tools regularly with a clarifying shampoo to rid them of product buildup that can cause blemishes."
-Tasha Reiko Brown-Joval

Harden Nail Polish Faster
"Once they are partially dry, run nails under cold water. The icy temperature will speed up setting your polish."
-Bethany Newell
